In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

Alright, let's start the snowflake challenge off right, with flagrant, self-absorbed monologing about why my shit is the best goddamn shit, and oh yes, there will be heavy uses of italics and comma splices.

Possessions Gained and Lost (Homestuck, Fanfic)

Okay, not going to lie, I wrote this in like... a day. Last minute rush for the deadline. And I think the writing really shows that. The only character in Homestuck I can write fast and somewhat-well is Dave Strider, with Sollux as the close runner up. And this is... well, Aradia.

So why this fic? Well, this is probably the most solid plot and world I've ever written. Aradia Megido runs an xxxHolic-esque pawn shop, where she meets four kids who are all related in some way. The way I set up the snapshots of the kids, I think, works really well.

But mostly, I just love, love love love this world that is built around crowded hallways filled with lost shoes, broken guitars, and frames missing their glass, and there's always something magical and special about that for me. And I don't think I'm alone in that feeling, so if you like places and stores that are filled to the brim with junk and smell like memories and meaning, then please take a look at this fic. There's no real pairing (which I think accounts for the general lack of hits), but go for it anyway.

The Cat in the Castle and Other Stories (Princess Tutu, Illustrated Fanfic)

I literally just wrote this for Yuletide. Go figure. Anyway, I'm reccing this because I'm bitter at the lack of kudos it has. And I have my theories about why that is, but I'm not going to voice those because they're kind of dickish.

And the writing isn't for everyone. It's rather simplistic, in its own way, where it works better said than read. Looking back I don't think that was a very good choice, and I should have just stuck with the straight-up-simple style in the last chapter. Although I was really tempted to write them in the (translated) style of their native land, like "Twelve-field-augustous-raven-winged-princess-of-November meets the demon Robust-night-edge-of-the-full-moon" but decided against it because that would have just been the worst to read through. The worst.

Okay, tangent over. Keeping that criticism in mind, however, I rather like this story. I like the illustrations, I like the AUs I placed them in, I had fun doing research for the mythological themes I was less familiar with. I like that Mytho's story is set in Colonial Louisiana, I like how Rue is a shitty Baba Yaga, I like Faikir's story (a lot. I like his the best), and I like how Ahiru is always the bravest and best no matter what era she's in. But mostly, I'm very proud of the fact I tied it all in with the Princess Tutu themes. So, go give this a shot, just for yucks.

Germania Mania (Hetalia, Fanific)

This is the greatest fanfiction that I/my bff will ever write. It is also the greatest fanfiction that will ever be written in the history of forever. That is all that needs to be said.

And now, here is quite possibly the greatest fannish work I have ever had the pleasure to produce.

There's a She-Wolf in her Closet (Homestuck, Visual Novel)
If you follow me on tumblr, or are generally aware of my activities, you're probably like, "Okay, oxfordroulette, this game sure was a hell of a lot of fun, but why rec this and not Call of Shakira: Gears of Jadekat? (which I linked to because you should go play that too if you haven't)" Well, dear anon, I'll tell you why. These games were made for the 2012 Homestuck Shipping Olympics, aka The Best Time I Have Ever Had in A Fandom Ever. Blood, tears, and most importantly ALL OF MY FREETIME were pumped into making these fantastic games. I was the programmer for both of them (+ some art for Call of Shakira, more information at this post) and man, I am so glad I was still enthusiastic about Homestuck at that point, otherwise I would have probably quit the internet out of the sheer effort I put into these things. Call of Shakira in particular took many, many hours of work and I am so, so proud of that game.

But I'm reccing She-Wolf and not CoS:GoJ for a few reasons:
-The writing is absolutely FANTASTIC. My bff forever wrote both of these games, but while CoS:GoJ is stellar, She-Wolf fucking blows it out of the park. I did a kind-of brief beta for these games' scripts, and god damn was this one good (here's a link to the writer's AO3)
- Solid gameplay. CoS:GoJ was produced with a very limited set of software, which I'm almost ashamed to admit I used due to the fact I'm a software developer irl, but I really needed something that could churn out a large set of rules very quickly, which resulted in quite a lot of random buggy stuff (most noticeable is when you try to move Jade too fast) She-Wolf was written in good ol' javascript, which gave me a lot of technical happiness.
-It was not (and still isn't appreciated) as much as CoS. I don't know why, it's probably the lack of music (which is unfortunate), and the less-flashy art (which was made for the constraints of round 2, even though it still overshot them and caused us to lose points). It boggles my mind that this didn't even get in the top five for the HSO round. While of course the winners deserved their slots, that doesn't mean I'm still not bitter about it (not really, just kind of like... ohhhhh... dang)

Whatever though, I'm mostly reccing this so you can play it if you haven't, and play it again if you have.
