Ninety Five
Windows 95 Tips
I'm a big sucker for that special brand of creepy pasta with a big helping of hilarity (thinking SCP wiki here), and "Ninety Five" is parked right up that alley. What makes this a really good fic as opposed to some kind of hodge-podge of generic brand "eerie tips" is the reoccurring themes that run through the piece. Summation: I love this, and you should too. Even if you're not familiar with the fandom it's sourced from, go read this hella rad fanfic.

The Articles of War
Treasure Planet
I didn't know what I was expecting when I clicked on a Treasure Planet fic, but it wasn't this. This story focuses on Captain Amelia, everybody's favorite anthropomorphic space cat, and really gets out its shovel and digs deep into the inner workings of the Captain. It's in depth, it's rad, and it passes the shit out of the Bechdel test, so go! Read this!

As Long As There Are Dreams
Secret of Kells
This fic follows Aisling as she moves throughout the ages, becoming friends with various children in Ireland. It stays true to character, is entertaining, and is just a really solid fanfiction. If you like Secret of Kells, then there's no reason for you not to read this.

Chasing Joshua
Subarashiki Kono Sekai | The World Ends With You
I never really liked Rhyme as a character. Like, she just kind of phased in and out of the game itself without a real detailed explanation of who she was. We got to see some of her personality in "Another Day," but it wasn't much, so I tend to avoid fanfics about Rhyme. However, since this was the only TWEWY fanfic this Yuletide, I decided to give it a shot. And I am SO GLAD I did. Gosh, I loved this fic, loved it. The older Rhyme in this story felt true and utterly solid, and her reactions to the events around her were just so, so on point. And Joshua's backstory is unsettling and wonderfully elaborated upon. Rhyme & Joshua is a relationship I never expected to read about, but I'm glad I did.

The Velvetskynn™ Rabbit
Dildos, bro
Man, I don't even know what to say about this but you need to read it. Best if you've read The Velveteen Rabbit. Super-best if you've read it as a kid.

Their Tragedy
Revolutionary Girl Utena
"How the hell is this fic about the Shadow Play girls? Who even writes about them?" I asked myself, foolishly, as I began to read. This was an excellent interpretation of how the Shadow Play girls came to be. It was sad, well written, surprisingly in character, and completely in-tune with the Utena universe. Akio's scene at the end is especially powerful. I definitely adopted this as my headcanon after reading, and you should adopt this as yours as well.

All Manner of Golden Things

A Separate Peace
Pimping my own gift here, but damn does it deliver. I requested something along the lines of, "Make a serious Gene/Finny fanfic... but set it in an incredibly ridiculous AU" and it came with friggin' pirates. Pirates. Everyone is wonderfully in-character, it's a lighthearted plot, and a genuinely enjoyable read. So go! Appreciate this gift of Yuletide!

I wrote "As Long As There Are Dreams" - thank you so much for the rec!

On another note - do you do any betaing outside of Yuletide? I have a fic that requires some help with Chinese (though it's not in a fandom you had on your list). Are you available?

What I'm looking for is translation and background for the Chinese characters in a tattoo:

I've read that it means “mouse”, “ginger”, “Yao” (normally used as a surname), and “pig” -- which seems random, but might actually make sense in the context of the fandom, which is Arrow, the TV show. The show has not explained the tattoo yet, so I'm hoping to do a fic version.

What I'm looking for is some cultural background on those words, or possibly an alternate reading of those characters? I know from my three years living in Japan that kanji can have multiple readings, especially depending on the kanji surrounding them and the context. But I'm not fluent and definitely don't know Chinese in the slightest.

The fic is not written yet. The help I'm looking for is with planning, so that my story makes sense with the Chinese characters and isn't completely off-base. It sounds like your experience would still be helpful.

Do you think that's something you can do? Or if not, would you be able to point me at someone who might?

Wow, where did you find that video! That helps me immensely - I'd done some basic research, but hadn't stumbled across that interview. The tattoo I'm working with is Oliver Queen's (the character the actor in the video plays), and it would have been given to him in show canon around 2009-2010. So the person who inked him must have fit your conjecture in some way.

I wish I could understand the Chinese the host is speaking, and especially the subtitles in Chinese, when she is telling him the conjecture a fan had about it meaning "having good aim." I figured the tattoo was about people Oliver met on the Island, Lian Yu (where he was stranded in the past, and where he got the tattoo) but him saying "people you haven't met yet" doesn't go with my fic idea at all. Oops.

Thanks for your help! I will keep all of this bookmarked to help me in my planning.
